The suspect has been neutralized, police say
Two people were killed in a shooting in a Jewish neighborhood in Montreal, Canada, on Monday, police said.
Montreal police said the suspect had been neutralized. A police officer and a civilian were killed in the Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood, while another officer and a second civilian were injured.
Videos of the police intervention circulating on social media suggest that the shooting took place near the Supermarché PA mall on Westbury Avenue. The surrounding area has been cordoned off by police, with local residents told to stay at home and avoid approaching windows. Footage shows police engaged in a point-blank gunfight with the suspected gunman.

According to the police, the suspect was ‘neutralized’ in the shootout, but the operation is ongoing. A police official confirmed to the Montreal Gazette that the suspected shooter was killed.

Law enforcement officials have not provided any information on the suspect’s identity or possible motives.
Located near the city center, the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood is home to several public schools and colleges, including the main campus of Montreal University, as well as some hospitals and prominent religious buildings, such as Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal – a large domed basilica, which is widely regarded as the most popular local tourist attraction.
